They did have the Muncie in 78.
Its not like the old Muncie ( I think what your book refers to) made of alum but rather cast iron. It is basically the old Saginaw but they introduced it in 78 and called it a Muncie. Didnt last long.
Tom Russo wrote a great article on the research he did about the 78 transmissions. Even used my friends as an example. Anyone interested could write to him and he could share the article. Sorry, I cant find my printed copy . http://www.hunt4cleanair.net/
