I just got a 72 convertible. The top was really never used (only the hardtop) I opened it up yesterday and it looks brand new (dirty as hell) Here is the problem it is real stiff and I'm nervous that if I strech it, it will crack.(it isnt brittle or rotted) Any ideas on what I can put on it to soften it or condition it? And what should I use to clean it up? Thanks for any help.
Sounds like a vinyl top and they are prone to temp damage. Mike gives good advice re letting it heat up before moving it much. Mine is a Haartz canvas top and not as finicky. The pic above was taken at 26*F. I put the top up just before winter storage with no problem.
My favorite soft ended year and my favorite color.
Strangely, I'm not ordinarily a rag top guy...I think roof lines make most cars, but yours is awesome, and I like the somewhat old school Centerlines..
The lines of the C3 come into thier full power with the top off. Check out that thread that just went by about the 81/82 vert. That car is absolutely stunning without the top.
