One thing that surprised me was how low the C3s were. In about a 15 minute span, I saw a 72 chrome bumper car go for about $14K, a 75 Convertible for $15K and a 74 convertible got for $16K. Then a C4 93 Ruby went for $15.5. It surprises me that a chrome bumper car or later C3 convertibles would be on par with a middling C4 coupe. I keep hearing that the post 72 cars are all appreciating, but it seems that the later C4s have caught up.

I would not take that small sample to indicate values of C3s vs C4s. Remember Thursdays lineup are the "value" vehicles most of which have issues. I've been to many Mecum auctions and most cars look much better on camera then in person.

Surprised at what chrome bumpers cars are selling for, they are selling lower then in the past and rubber bumper seems to be holding well... Hmmm...

I wonder if the younger gerneration buying these cars are starting to gravitate towards the newer C3.

The major reason is.... they are more affordable and the fact they relate to them more due to their age. No more, no less.

Stay in tune....

I have been to enough auctions, those cars look alot better on camera. If you were standing there, you probably would'nt give more than that. The paint, weatherstrip, undercairidge all plays in.

By that logic we should see the price of '72's, '77's, '82's, 96's, '03's, and '05's to go up as well.

Just about every C3 is the last of something, does that make them all equally collectible?

68 - last 327s
69 - last four gill design, last 427s
70 - last high compression
71 - last fiber optics, last solid lifter big block
72 - last front chrome bumper, last LT-1
73 - last rear chrome bumper
74 - last dual exhaust non-catalyst system
75 - last C3 convertible
76 - last with a Vega steering wheel
77 - last with the kamm-back rear design
78 - last of the old seat design as standard equipment
79 - last non-aero design
80 - last L82
81 - last carburetor powered car
82 - last C3
