Can this wire be used ?
While trying to sort out my "audio whine" probs,

I've found that the wiring from the alternator to starter
is looking a bit "ratty/old" and would like to change it.
I've got some 8 gauge cable from my amp install kit
(there's at least 12 feet)
The cable itself is red and has transparent insulation on it (dunno if that's important or not) and has written on it ..
" 8 G/A OFC power cable".
Would this be suitable to use from Alt to starter ??
I have all the fittings etc so making up this wouldn't be a problem.
THANKS (Again) for your continued HELP/patience.
I'm sure without you guys, I would've been "throwing cats" by now

Here's a pic of the cable I have.

So.... Anyone ?????
Can I use this as Alternator to Starter wire (with fusible link of course)????
As I have no use for it, I thought I'd use it &
as I said in my post the alt to starter wire is a bit ratty looking.
Thanks

Gav
You can use this table to check if your cable is big enough for your application, depending on the kind of alternator you have :
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_wire_gauge
A stock alternator supplies about 60 A max, but last generations can reach 130 Amp or more, so use the appropriate wire size.
Normally, this line isn't fused, so remove one of the battery terminals when you do the job !
