Default Key cylinder

I have a question that has been on my mind since I saw the picture, what is the key cylinder.. on say a '71 in the rear bumper area between the tail-lights? Whadaaaaaaaaaaaaa does it open?

My '74 has the key cylinder in the front fender for what I believe was at one time a factory alarm of some sort...

That would be the factory alarm system which was later relocated to the side where yours is.Mine is a 72 and it works

When you turn the key to the on position it arms the system, then if someone opens your door or your hood without disarming it the horn located under the car will sound off, very similar to new car alarms.

Got an owner's manual for your '74? It tells you how to arm the alarm. It is not a kill switch. If the alarm is on and doors or hood are opened, an alarm horn sounds.

Beginning with the '78s, the t-tops were added to the system.
