Hood Decal Removal

Anyone know a foolproof method to remove the decal fro the hood of an 82 Collector Edition without harming the paint??

We talking a vinyl decal?

If so, a heat gun to warm the decal and them peel it off.

Hope the decal hasn't been painted over with clear coat! If so, sand it off!

Then repaint.

Thanks. No idea if it's coated. I don't know if it's vinyl or not. It's graduated fade hood decal that came on all 82 Collector's Editions. I've only had the car a few weeks. Scuba

Does it have to come off? A reproduction graphics package for the CEs is expensive. If it were me and I could live with it, I would leave it.

CE owners can chime in, but I believe the graphics package was applied over the clear coat at Bowling Green. It's possible a previous owner may have had clear coat shot ovwer the tops of the graphics.

WD40, or a heat gun/hair dryer. Should peel off. The paint under the decal will, of course, be a different shade.

JimT is right. I removed the "c" shaped hood decal from my 81 by heating it and the paint was a different color under the decal. I needed the front bumper painted, so I had him do the hood too.

WD-40 is paint safe, just use a degreaser cleaner afterwards.

Decal Removal

Leaving the decal on isn't an option. It truly looks like sh*t! Intend to have it painted on this time. Hood decal alone to purchase is about $500. Thanks for all the suggestions. Scuba
