I am trying to put together a stereo upgrade for my 72 vert and I have been reading here that alot of people are using 6.5 polk db651 in the kicks. I was getting prices today and the tech at polk suggested mm651instead. Will they fit? My plan so far is to put Polk 6.5 mm651 in the kicks with a Polk pa250.2 amp, Polk mm1040 10" sub with Alpine MRP-M450 amp. I have not purchased anything yet so any advice would be greatly appreciated. I really do not know much about the whole audio thing.
The db651 will fit with no cutting the mm651 has to large a basket you can go to the polk website and check out the specs and sizes or you can take the kicks out and drive over to the car audio store and see if they fit.
You can make it fit with a little cutting but I think you will be surprised at
how well the db651 sound if you need pics I can post some.
Where are you going to put the sub.

I had a box made contoured to fit across the back 5" depth sealed .80 CF air space, sub in the center, sub amp on one side and speaker amp on the other.

Here's perhaps an ignorant question. By no cutting, do you mean the kicks themselves (speakers concealed behind the grill and looking sort of factory) or do you mean the metal?

I believe he is referring to no cutting on the steel birdcage. I certainly did not do so. (Click on thumbnail.)
They are cutting the kick panels for 6".
Kick panel speaker loc. is about 5 3/4" H X 4" W X 2 1/4" D so 4X6 fit easily & some 5 1/4 can be fitted w/o cutting. A mounting plate is needed. There is not enough airspace behind to optimize 5.25, much less 6 1/2. The speaker should be solidly mounted so that the movement of the speaker cone is translated into sound rather than any movement of the speaker.
Kenwood eXcelon mask CD, 5.25 components in factory kick panels & amp. in back center compartment.

I can't answer your question as I am not familiar with the mm-series and its dimensions. The db651 fits "just." It's a case of measure 10x before cutting into the kick panel. Some have cut into the birdcage but I did not find that necessary.
