Default Question about Hood Release

Does anyone know if the 80-82 Hood Release Cable (interior/under steering wheel) is any different than the mid 70's?
Thanks

I saw that there aren't any replies. I'm no expert, but from what I can tell, from looking at some catalogs and trying to figure out how to open my own hood after the release handle and cable came off in my hand (doh!): according to riksvets catalog, they appear to be the same part. I'm trying to figure out where my penetrates the firewall, as what came out was the handle, the cable (with a clean end), and the metal coil (sheath) that attaches to the handle/bracket. www.riksvet.com

Ya that cable has me wondering too!
If it snaps whattya do?
I plan to run a second cable from the latch along the underside of the hood to the area around the horn.

I do know that there are 2 different setups (I have both) one is a single wire within the sheath and the other is a stranded wire. I'm not sure what is correct or not. I used the single wire one because I though it looked stronger.
Here's a tip for you all....... When you park your C3 for any period of time, pop the hood and leave it ajar. 2 reasons for this, one you should always check the fluids anyway before driving it, and second, most threads I read about the "Stuck Hood" are after it has sat for awhile, if it is ajar will not be stuck closed.

There were 3 different hood releases used between 68 & 82. 68-76 have a solid cable and a steel armoured casing. 77-79 use the same solid cable but switched to a black plastic casing, while the 80-82 release uses a braided cable with the black plastic casing. The handles, brackets and length of the cable is the same for all 3.

Does anyone have any clue what happens when the cable "pops?" Where do you go from here?

I was able to get to the cable on my 68 through the side vents. Not easy but did it. Once you get it open add an another cable

I just popped out the egg crate (on my 72) and reached up and hit the latch.

Remove the plugs in your wiper tray to access the hood release mechanisms on each side. See link below:

On my 78 I removed the splash panel in the drivers side front wheel well. Reached up and felt around until I found the latch, and popped it with my finger. It will take some time. Good Luck.
