Does B&M, or any other company, make a replacement performance shifter for an 80? I'd like to get a replacement shifter, but don't really want to hack up my console if at all possible. Any hints, help, or photos of a successful swap?
Oh, sorry.....failed to mention that part.......automatic. Something like a Z-Gate shifter or some form of ratcheting shifter....but without the bulky housing that goes along with those.
There is no shifter made for the c3...but there should have been,
I bought a rather cheap B&M with the lock out trigger of course the quick silver is a nice ratchet no T handle lock out,
I bought the one I did because it's simple and small...
I would have thought the height on the B&M custom fit to the early 80's camaro would have been about right but it was posted they are not,
I have seen aftermarket shifters installed in c3's that were too tall and dorky looking but I have no issues cutting and welding the handle shorter if need be,
I will be starting on this in a week of so when the car is back from the engine rebuild, I will post progress or lack there of....
Cool! I did find that post where Jetmech installed the MegaShifter in the console, without the need to cut the console to pieces. Looks sweet.....a PITA to install......but sweet nonetheless!
Hey Bats, maybe this will help you out too. Keep us informed on how your install progresses, since I am very, very interested in seeing how this works out for you.
A thread from Gyopp should have showed up during the search, check that out as well
If that looks like a PITA to install, try installing a Megashifter in an early C3, even less room under the console....there was some fab work/welding/grinding to the shifter involved so as not to have to modify the console or trans tunnel....I actually got it to fit, and it looked good from the outside, but I had ground too much off a critical componet on the shifter and it wouldn't ratchet out of first gear. I know what I did wrong, and picked up another one off ebay intending to give it another go. It's still sitting in a box in my shed with the rest of the parts, and that was over a year ago. Maybe I'll get to it this summer
