I'm planning to drive the 76 from southeast MO to Titusville to watch the shuttle launch in April. Before I leave, I need to replace the weather stripping, left rear bearing and seals. When I pulled her out for a drive yesterday, I noticed a puddle of antifreeze under the heater box. I really don't have time to replace it but I would like the option of having some heat during the trip. I have a inline shut off valve on one of the heater hoses. Would there be anything wrong with adding another inlile valve on the other heater hose? I'm thinking I can shut both valves off when I don't need heat.
To answer your original question, no reason not to put a shutoff in both hoses. You might want to make sure that the one that you have now closes the line positively. Otherwise, you'll have a steady trickle of coolant in the passenger floor.

The leak appears to be very minor and it's draining toward the outside by the fender/wheel well. It leaked maybe a teaspoon over the last two months. I'm hoping the extra valve will hold off the repair untill I get back.
One shut off valve will stop water flow thru the heater core, but there is still system pressure on BOTH sides of the shut-off valve. A second shut-off valve should prevent any system pressure from getting to the heater core.
a simple trick as long as your cooling system is in good shape is to loosen the radiator cap to the first notch relieving the pressure that normally the system collects and is under.... and checking the fluid level at various gas stops you could go anywhere.....I did...
If you need any parts Ecklers is located across the street from the
Indian river in Titusville. They have nice show room displays.
I watched the last launch from that area at the Clarion Inn.

Just south of the intersection of US1 and State highway 50. West side of US1. As stated, this is a nice area to watch the shuttle launch from.
Before 9/11 we would get free car passes in the mail from NASA to view from the causeway (3 miles), now the only free viewing is about 12 miles, but still worth it. the Space Center tickets sell out in about 5 minutes online, so you're out of luck there.
The only other is bus tours from Orlando by Florida Dolphin Tours and Grayline/Gator Tours, but they charge around 120 bucks to get you to 3 miles.
No matter what it's a good experience. This one ought to be good, being just before daylight.
Florida is full of stuff to see, Roger's Corevettes with the ZL1 is in Orlando, Disney, Universal, Seaworld google for a zillion more, depending on your interests.
