On my '70, the door locks use the same key as the ignition. I think '72 is the same way. The round key was only for the glove compartment and the spare tire lock. Mine was missing the round key too when I got it (as well as all of the spare tire equipment), but I bought a new set of locks (and all the spare tire equipment) for pretty cheap (I think the locks were like $70) so mine is back to "original equipment", even though the equipment isn't what originally came with the car.

I just went and checked. The ignition key will not fit either door. It won't slide in the lock cylinder at all. I'll probably have to buy a new set of locks. No big deal.
looks nice! What color is it? (can't tell from pic) and what does trim tag say about original color combo? Clean up that carpet on the drivers side and get ye some floormats!
I bought my first Vette, she is a 78, just about three months back and I found her on craigslists also. I got her for $5800.00 and think I did good. I wanted a four speed car and black would have been cool but as long legged as I am it would have been tough working the clutch between the steering wheel and door panel. I have been a truck driver for the last 36 years and still counting so shifting gears is what I loved to do but I am satisfied with my purchase.
I've got a black 79 I'll trade you for yours right now!! I like it a lot, and just as others said, you'll have fun tinkering and fixing the little problems, while presumably driving and enjoying it.

That lock set isn't all that expensive either. It has been a few decades since I have taken a Corvette steering column apart, but as I recall, changing the ignition switch isn't too bad. The only somewhat hard part about changing the door locks is getting the Jesus clips off the lock ***** to take the door panel off. Get those bastards off and the rest of the job is cake. There is a tool at your local NAPA that works like a charm on the clips holding the window cranks on.
