I bought all the parts new as my switch, bracket and everything were non existent. Can someone point me to the right page in the AIM, I've searched under transmission, and electrical and find nothing. I need to know how the switch is mounted. Do the wires come out facing front or back of the car? I first tried toward the front but it seems like the lever on the switch hits the side cover on the trans. I now have it mounted so the wires come out the back, and stuck the rod from teh switch to the reverse bracket, and the lights stay on all the time. I can work the switch unattached by hand and make the lights go on and off. If anyone has a pic of a 79 that would really be awesome.
The wires go along the trans tunnel & up to the plug coming out of the fire wall. On my 70, the wires are green & pink with a L shape plug. Here's a link to my thread showing the install of the switch. It's a very easy procedure. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c3-g...d-working.html
Good luck, Glenn
Glenn, I was looking at your thread before I even posted here, and remembered it from when you first posted it, knowing it was somthing I needed to do to mine. Unfortunately your 70 is a little different than my 79. In your pics it looks like the wires come off the switch toward the back of the car, and then loop around to go up to the engine compartment, but Duke's look like they come off the front of the switch. Also it looks like your rod from the switch to the reverse bracket is mounted opposite of his.

Guess the 79 set up is a bit different. Yup, the wires face the rear and loop around to the front.

Well, I have the switch mounted with the wires facing the front of the car and the lights work, unfortunately they don't go off. If I get under the car and work the reverse lever with everything attached and hooked up, they go on and off as they should, but not using the shifter. I'm more than frustrated now after spending an entire afternoon on something that should be a 1/2 hours worth of work, so I'm calling it a day before something gets broken. TTT hoping someone can either show me a picture or the AIM page that I should be looking at. BTW, thanks for the help Glenn, and I'm going to put your cheers to good work, as it's time for a beer!
KapSA, once again to the rescue. You DA MAN!! I turned right to it in my AIM, and see that I have the switch mounted backwards, as I have the wires routed towards the front of the switch right now. I'll get back on it tomorrow. Fortunately it's supposed to be even nicer weather then.

Thanks

The switch mount should have elongated bolt holes so you can shift the switch position while on the tranny (bolts snug but still be able to move the switch) until the lights go off & on using the shifter. Did you have someone in the car to move the shifter while you were under the car? I lucked out and it work first time around.
Even so, you deserve a cold one!
Glenn
I know how hard it can be to find something in the AIM, especially when you need it NOW!
My 78 AIM has an index and I turned right to it.
On a hunch I checked that page no on the 79, there it was, same page.
Sped, yup that looks exactly like mine, thanks. Glenn, I did try to adjust it some, but no luck yet, but I looks like I have it mounted backwards. Part of my frustration yesterday was I was working by myself, so I had to crawl out from under the car about a million times to check the lights. My girls don't know it yet, but they're helping daddy in the garage later today!

Always good to have a helper for certain tasks. I'm surprised the switch didn't have installation instructions. Once you flip it around, it should work correctly. When I mounted mine, I started with the plate bolt holes centered on the tranny bolt holes. Didn't need any adjustment. Remember to use some thread lock because of vibration.

Looks like I finally got this one licked. The rod came with a slight bend in it, which I believe is the way it's supposed to be, but it wasn't allowing the switch to swing forward enough to kick the lights off, so a combination of straightening the rod and elongating the holes a little more on the switch itself gave me enough adjusment to get them to turn off. I couldn't have done it without my 2 young girls helping, and I apologized for getting frustrated in front of them. I told them I wasn't mad at them, but the car. That's what kids are for, so I definitely owe them, as well as eveyone here for their help. I just hate it when something so simple causes so much frustration.

Congrats! Even the simple jobs make you feel good when completed and work!

I should have known I spoke too soon. I backed the car out of the garage to do some cleaning, and everything was fine. When I went to pull it back in, the lights are back on all the time. I didn't loctite the screws on the switch as Glenn suggested, so I'll try to readjust tomorrow and loctite. I'm done with it for today.
