Default Not savy on corvette terms

Just new with corvettes and having just bought my first one this past fall, I realize that I'm lacking knowledge of most of the terms used for the corvette.. I have a '73 coupe with 350 and the auto trans In good shape for what I know. Now come to a term that is often used but not sure exactly what it is: Birdcage what is this describing exactly? If there are any more terms that I should become aware of please include them and maybe a picture of what you are describing, especially "birdcage". Thanks to all that help "teach me".

The birdcage is simply the STEEL frame that surrounds you when you sit in your car, comprised of the door posts, windshield frame, door sills, roof framework.... All the stuff that the fiberglass is bolted, bonded, attached to. A common rust problem on many old Corvettes, VERY expensive to repair/replace. Best places to examine are your windshield frame and bottoms of your door posts, but you will need to remove some of the interior trim to see...

Check out this thread and see post #21. Thats a birdcage.

HI & welcome to the forum.
The birdcage is the steel structure around the passenger compartment.

Good idea is to get an AIM (assembly instruction manual) manual and other corvette tech books, they will be much help .

NOM non original motor = matching number correct

rare and highly desirable= base optioned high production model year

original paint= if you can see bare fiberglass, this is probably true, if not, assume hit in the front.

fresh repaint (especially if changed to "resale red") = frame rot so bad, the only thing holding it together are the body mounts.

needs a little TLC = money pit. While there's a certain amount of pride one can take once finished, you'll be hard pressed getting your spouse or banker to agree with your use of money and 4 years (or more) of your life

completely stock = most of the hard to find (and therefore expensive) pieces have been changed out with stuff you can buy at Autozone

Why did I have to start this? The rest of you guys are slipping

BTW, welcome, and good luck with your new toy. /:\
