Default Fiberglass repairs material preference

When performing repairs in fiberglass, is the cloth preferred over the loose fiber material or vice versa? Repairs in mind are restrengthening the body seam area (grinding down and rebuilding).

Thanks!

Always use the 'matte' or random strand. The woven clothes, over time, will 'telegraph' the texture through the bodywork and paint. Also be sure and use resins formulated for SMC. Regular polyester or vinylester resins will not bond well to the SMC fiberglass.

Agreed. Never use cloth on bodywork. The only thing I will use cloth on is the floorboards and the storage compartment, because they are out of sight at all times. Cloth is stronger and cheaper, but it will always show.
