Default When installing a windshield...

What has to be done before putting the windshield in?
I have some broken clips that look like they lay under the windshield; cannot find an aftermarket source for them (they are secured by v. short phillips headed screws).

Thx,
Andy

If they are the ones around the edge, they are for retaining the chrome trim. Do they look like this: http://www.volvette.com/Merchant2/me...Category_Code=

If these are the ones, let me know how you get them off, mine are pretty well rusted in place.

Are you talking about the upper windshield molding clips? If so, you pretty much do have to remove the windshield to replace them.

Windshield Molding Clips

Windshield Molding Screws

Those are about the only clips I can think of.. On the 1979 the windshield sits on the corner filler which has a bump ledge on it for the glass to rest on.

Now I will tell you this too! If you are putting in a new windshield and getting one of the aftermarket windshields, it will not be as thick as the original windshield. Will this cause a problem??? Not if installed properly.

If you use the urethane glue to install this type of windshield you will need to make sure an extra thick bead is put down before you install the glass! If you don't there will be a gap between the windshield and the moldings that will look ugly. Basically what you are doing is making up the thickness with the urethane. It might not be a bad idea to get the people that sell you the glass to install it if you are worried about installation.

To remove the clips, the windshield must be pulled! That is the only way you'll get to the screws!
