in my 80 we put the new intake and carb on and its running good but we have the hood off to fix the headlights and the motor seems to jump alot when you rev the motor and put it into reverse. We checked the motor mounts and they look fine. does anyone else notice this?
it shouldnt move more than and inch or so. 5 to 7 ,its gotta be broke. to check it with a jack you have to put a 2 by 4 under the driver side of engine standing up on a floor jack. if its broke it will lift driver side of engine. you cant put it in the center of engine.
Agreed... replace the motor mounts. That was one of the first things I did with my car, and without that engine throwing its weight around in the engine compartment, the car handled better too in my opinion. I went with poly mounts, and my engine moves less than an inch... pretty much not at all.
Be careful when you buy mounts i bought some jobber mounts from the local parts store, and the bolt holes were not slotted like the stock ones and they didnt line up. So i ended up putting in solid mounts, they bolted right in.
