Default Shift console replacement

The shift console and especially the ash try cover on our '78 pace car was really looking pretty rough. So I decided to replace the console, ash tray cover and heat/ac control.
Our '78 is a high miler, just local cruising and shows, so just wanted to spiff up those bits. Not going for NCRS, but wanted it to look better.
Bought console from one supplier and initally bought the ash tray cover from another supplier. Ash tray cover didn't fit right in the opening. With the bushings in place (another subject - they really appear somewhat less than an adequate) the cover sits down below the surface - sits to front of opening - sits to left and is cocked. Other than that it's good!
So I figured, my fault in that I ordered from two different places. I then ordered another ash tray cover from the same place that I ordered the console. It arrives and guess what - it fits just like the other one!
So I'm on the phone to customer service. They take down all the details and say that someone will get back to me within 24 hours. It's been slightly over 24 hours, but hey, I'm ok with that, just want to know what's going on. I guess the tech man is probably really busy as they not only handle Corvette, but also Edsel, Packard, Studebaker and DeSoto replacement parts.
Hopefully we'll know something yet today. I was all excited in doing this work. Now that feeling has faded some.
Take care

Have you considered cleaning and repainting your original cover?

Default Console/ash tray door problem

Think we've got it resolved. Corvette parts house suggested that I call the actual company that makes (probably imports) the ash tray door. I have talked to them a few times in the past hour. Great customer support. They went right down on the floor and looked at the parts. Then dug up original Chevy part for comparison. Their replacement part is the problem. Legs coming down from the top are bent slightly forward and are not perpendicular to the top surface. He called back saying that the legs can be bent slightly to obtain perfect alignment and door operation. I'll take this on tomorrow.

I was not getting any satisfaction from the parts house. This part supplier knows how to respond to a customer issue.

Take care folks
