If you take the b pilar mount apart, you can take off the pin reciever and be left with a hole that the rod on your new tops SHOULD slide into. I say should because sometimes there are alignment issues and the plate has to be repositioned (I did this on my '77 and the pass side had to be moved in at the top almost 3/8th of an inch). /:\
Thanks one more ? The rod you were talking about does it mount to the top itself or the car? Eckler's has a 1978 to 82 Refurb kit that shows the rod I think you were talking about would this kit be what they are calling retrofit kit?
There isn't a kit. You need the 78-82 halo panel hardware in order to mount your tops. Order a pair of these:
Remember: the factory glass tops sit higher at the halo panel than the fiberglass tops. Do not try to crank them down flush or you will break them.
My advice is to purchase any 78-82 assembly instruction manual (AIM) when you purchase the receivers and take a look at the factory installation of the optional glass tops. The AIM also has the correct adjustment procedure.

If you purchase the parts that you discuss do they bolt right up or do you have to modify the car? I have a 74 and would love to get the extra head room from the glass tops!

The strikers or halo receivers will bolt in place of the old style. But, it has been a long time since I switched one over. Seems to me that you have to either drill out the hole where the triangle bolt screwed in on your car, or you have to remove the back side of the switch for clearance.
Someone correct me on this if I'm wrong, from my memory the switch on the backside will hit if not removed.
