I have a 1980 with that darn 85 mph speedometer, and it has not been working, now it is bouncing around. The car does have cruise, if I change both speedo cables would that solve the problem? or would it be the speedo it self? or the speedo gear?

Thanks.
Mike.
It might be that the cables just need to be lubricated. Mine used to bounce before I put some lithium grease on the upper cable. Some prefer to use grahite. It could also be that the cruise transducer is shot, or the speedo. You will have to do a little bit of troublshooting to figure it all out.

The very reason I had to check out my installed 165mph speedo before deciding to make my extra one available (I'll be posting it this weekend, btw) was due to what ended up being a bad cable.
So, before you go any further into it, first I'd lube and see if that solves it. Myself, I prefer graphite for this, and it doesn't take a huge amount. Check for kinks while it's out.
Already looked for any kinks that looks good, just dont know if its the cable that goes from speedo to cruise, or from cruise to tranny. or both.
Still deciding on that other, trying to figure if I can afford.
