I had my garmin gps plugged into the cig lighter and after a few minutes it wants to shut down. Anybody know what's up with that? Cig light and gps work fine otherwise. Thx.
I had similar issue , wanted to charge my phone.....but blew the fuse
posted a question here... basiclly the answer was. Old technology I was told to try an after market set up to plug phone into. not sure if this is your issue but a thought

The garmin would want to switch off as soon as it loses power from the cig. lighter plug, so I would think that your plug is not secured enough into the cig. socket and when ever it disconnects (even for miiliseconds) your garmin gps will think that you switched off the car and it would switch it self off accordingly.
try to clean the cig. socket with something like contact cleaner and also try to check the electrical connections underneath the shifter panel.
