You have to remove four nuts inside the car behind the firewall. It's a PITA, but it can be done. Get a long extension and one of those flexible joints for the sockets. It's a tight space, so you need to be patient.
Try the Advanced Search on the C3 Tech forum. There have been several threads on the subject that include details and pictures of the ratchet-extension-ujoint combo commonly used. Definitely remove the drivers seat so you can lie on your back with your feet in the storage area.
I removed mine on my '79 a couple of weeks ago, have the dash, seats and steering column out and it was very difficult to get all of those nuts off, big time PITA!
I had an extra nut on the lower right bolt that was holding up a wire harness. When I couldn't get the booster off I finally discovered the extra nut.
I replaced that when redoing my brake system. I didn't remove anything extra to get it out. For me, it required a frankenstein socket wrench assembly, and me sitting upsidedown in the driver's seat, t-tops removed, with my feet out above the roof. Then, it's just a lot of tiny, tiny turns of the socket wrench (1 click at a time at one point) to get them out. It's only 4 nuts, but it takes patience. Once it's out, slip it off, new one on, then back into position to get the nuts back on the new booster. Have fun
