Default What is a hardtop worth??

My hardtop is in excellent shape structurally. It is stripped and ready to prime and paint. I am really thinking about selling it. What is it worth? I would like to swap for a 454 rebuildable engine if possible.

Thanks
Wade

what year is it for? hardtop prices vary on condition. if it is in perfect shape, with all the trim, the weatherstrip is nice, and the headliner is in place, I'd say ready to paint maybe $500 to $700? you will really take a $ hit if the weatherstrip needs to be replaced (the kit is over $250)..and if the trim is missing/damaged. most of the trim is not rero'd ( i think the header is, but it alone is around $100).....the headliner isn't cheap either.

Thanks. I have all the trim but the WS does need to be replaced and the headliner was gone when I got the car. If I can trade it for a rebuildable 454 shortblock that should be fair shouldn't it?

John's right. Typical swap meet price is $600-ish.

You didn't even break the engine yet, or did you?

Figured that. It may not blow up either. Hell, if you're gonna build one even bigger ask 427Hotrod to help you spec out out a really big one

well, if the WS is shot, that deducts quite a bit as this is expensive (look at any of the suppliers but I think around $250 for the set)......headliner is also around $300(?) for all 3 parts. Not sure what a 454 shortblock goes for but a hardtop w/o the above parts may only go for $300-$400? Can you make the trade for that?

Also, personally, I love the look of the hardtop (It's on my 68) but I'm afraid most convertible owners consider it a waste......Prices are way down now and hardtops are easy to find. Also, shipping drives the cost WAY up.

I'd say about 700 bucks if it's ready to be put on the car but wtf do I know. I paid $125 for mine back in 1973 after talking the guy down from $175.

I too am curious of what year it is. I have a May 70 build date and might be interested.

Wade, can you post pics of the hardtop.
I need one for the track so I'm not concerned with appearance.
I do have a 454 block laying around but its a 2 bolt main.
Was going to have the 4 bolt splice done and turn it into a 496 but stumbled upon a 509 instead.

I have a 454 short block I'd trade for it. Came from a '74 1/2 ton pickup if I remember correctly. Cast crank, 2 bolt mains. Timing chain broke and it bent a bunch of valves, so no known lower end issues.
