Whats involved in installing a performance intake that has no egr valve on a 1979 L48. If I remove all of the emission equipment will it run as well as with the emission stuff hooked up. The catalic converter will be coming off also as side pipes are going on. There is no emission certification in my state if you are wondering. Is ther any thing special that I need to do.
It will run fine, but I wouldn't be expecting a lot of increase in performance. There will be a minor amount & the exhaust will sound better, but overall there won't be a lot of effect. There's no computer, so nothing that cares about the emissions system.
Wow, what do you know...I was just looking at some intake manifolds that I was thinking about getting for my '68 327...and noticed that it didn't come with an EGR valve.
I know what it does...but wasn't sure if I should get it since it lacks one. But as you said, ratflinger, the car doesn't have a computer, so it shouldn't care..
Thanks for the info. And good thing I used the search feature, lol..
Taking off your current exhaust system and going with headers and sidepipes will wake your motor up a bit. If your going to be using the stock Q-jet than the Edelbrock Performer 2101 is the correct intake manifold with out EGR, not much of a noticeable difference over the stock intake though. I would read Lars papers on setting up your carb, distributor and timing. These 3 things alone will make a noticeable difference in the way your car will perform. If you really want to wake it up even more better heads and cam in addition to these things will do the trick.
Yeah, with the intake and exhaust manifolds coming off, this would be the time to replace the heads to make some horsepower. Does anyone have suggestions on what heads to use? The most horsepower for the buck.
