I am now stripping my 76 to repaint it and I need to make a few decisions. I know that often on the forums people encourage to "do what YOU want", but I want to get some group opinions on a few things becuase I cant decide.
1. Should I get rid of the keyhole for the security system? It is not working and my key dosent even fit, but I cant decide if I should keep it for looks.
2. Should I have the inside of the door on the hinge side painted black and the oposite edge painted the new color like it already is (factory orig.), or should I have the whole inside of the door painted the new color like the painter suggested.
My $.02 - The security system lock is a very corvette specific thing and therefore very cool. Keep it even if it doesn't work. I would always paint my door lips and jams body color.
AFAIK factory jambs were body color all over... my 1977 jambs were uniformly silver under everything else on top. Keep the lock on the fender... 1976 was the last full year for that position. Late 1977 moved it to the driver's door lock.
Paint the jambs, no need to do the inside of the door. Don't forget to mask the window or pull it out. You'll prob need to pull it out to take out the side view mirrors anyways.

I would be nervous about a painter whose first thought is to go against the OEM look unless the project is going to be a custom.
It's easier to redrill the security hole than it is to fill it once it's painted. Remove it, if you later decide you should have left it, you can always put it back.
