Default 1971 Hood support question

Today I got a new hood support for my 71 coupe and it did not fit. The bottom of the support bolts up just fine but the top arm seems to long. I am not sure if it is the support bracket or my hood. My car did not have a hood support when I got it so I have nothing to compare it to. I have suspected that my hood might be an after market hood so it may well be the problem. In any case can anyone tell me what the measurement on the hood is between the support bracket bolt closest to the closest hood hinge bolt is?
Thanks
Scott

I have the hood off my "71 but the hood support is still connected at the fender. So, I extended my support the full length and measured from the bolt at the fender to the top of the support arm. It is 14 inches in length give or take an eighth or so. I hope this helps. If you need me to measure something else let me know.

The support you are using, is it a telescoping type with a roller latch or is it a folding 2 piece type?

Thanks

On my 71 the the distance from top fender bolt to top of support is 18"

The actual sliding parts are 14.5" when hood is opened

First of all thanks for the quick responses,
The support is the roller type (correct I believe) the measurement that I am looking for is not the length of the support bracket but rather the holes in the hood itself that the hinges and bracket bolt to. Looking at the hood from the bottom side there are four holes two for the support bracket and two for the hinge I am looking for the measurement from the closest hinge hole on the hood to closest hole on the support bracket on the hood. I am sorry for any confusion I will try to post a photo tomorrow.
Thanks again

I believe that I may have a 1972 hood on a 71 car. Apparently the location of the hood support holes on the hood are different than that of a 71 and earlier.

My bad , sorry I did not understand your need.

My hood is on the car and measuring along the curverd contour is a little difficult.

But as best I can tell the center to center from upprt or rear most hinge hole and lower or forward most support hole is 13 5/8 to 3/4"

Hope this hellped

I measured my 71' and it checks 8.5" span between the 2 closest holes. Mine has the scissors type hood support. There is also another set of "dimples" at 13.5" but the holes are not drilled. Don't know what year hood I have, as I know it had the front smashed at some point in it's life.

Scott,
I found the same measurements David has. Center of bolt to center of bolt is roughly 13 3/4." As far as I know, I have a correct 71 hood.

Thanks guys,
Mine measures 8 ½ inches from the two center holes so I guess I need to get the folding support.
Thanks again for helping me to find a solution
