Has anyone removed their external antenna and replaced it with an interior antenna? I've been thinking of doing this for a while and I'm now at a point where I have to decide before I get any further with my fiberglass work.
I figure with a fiberglass body even if you 'hid' a traditional antenna behind the body panels you should still get decent reception. Anyone have thoughts on this?
I'm planning on putting mine inside the rear bumper when I put the new fiberglass one on. I think being down lower I will lose a little range but feel it will be worth the clean look.
When I built my stereo box I installed one of the hidden electronic antenna's available on ebay for around $10. I've seen mixed reviews about their performance but it works quite well for me. Obviously you can't see it in this picture but just to give you an idea where it's located in the car, it's top-middle on the back of the box.
I was thinking about that for XM Satellite radio- the antenna is in the front fairing along with the GPS antenna on my Harley and works just fine. I'm just going to stick it up under the rear deck and see what happens.
