I'm attempting to replace my speedometer and tachometer with the ever-popular Autometer gauges. From researching the forum, I've noticed some owners place the speedometer on the right hand side. Is this just a matter of preference? What side do you have yours on?
Since the gauges are not placed evenly in front of the driver, and Chevrolet placed the tach on the right, more directly in front of the driver, it leads me to believe that for racing, it's more important to see the tach rather than the speedometer. I could be wrong on that, but it seems logical.
What it comes down to is your personal preference. Don't worry about where others arrange the speedometer and the tach as we all have our own reasons for doing whatever. Do what makes you happy with it.
I'd say it depends on whichever side is easier to read the tach, depending on what steering wheel you're running. I agree, put the tach in the easier to see spot.
Thanks for the replies. I will put the tach on the right as it will be easier to read and closer to my other gauges. I wan't to keep it closer to the other gauges as I will do a fair amount of quater-mile racing soon.
