Default under coating '77 model

Here are pics. of what I have left after the pinion seal leak. I have cleaned off damaged undercoating on the jack storage and battery boxes but want to save as much as poss.. Does anyone have pics. of their original undercoating? I know that not all of this area was covered and no undercoating on the frame but need ideas about how much to respray. A verbal description will work too. Thanks, mike...

You are an incredibly patient individual to have cleaned that whole area so thoroughly! AFAIK, 1977s were not undercoated at all from the factory. The frames were painted with a dull black paint over the bare steel with the tub left bare. My 77 got Ziebarted or some similar coating when new and is just a gooey mess all over underneath, to include the frame and suspension. I cleaned my suspension components during the refresh stages, but the rest of the underside will stay since I lack the determination to do what you just did.

Here is a pic of the original glass finish, what you can see anyway.

The factory srayed some "sound deadening" (same as undercoat) in the rear wheel wells and only some overspray got on the side of the boxes and is different on most cars. Done with the bare body, so none on the frame parts. It then had some car color overspray on top of that.
The front had a lot on the bottom of the fender to prevent paint cracking on the fender tops.
The metal floor pans were galvanized

You did a beautiful job on cleaning that up.
Looks like the glass is in great shape too. Some cars have a lot of deterioration of the resins.

Unless you are having the car judged, I would never spray that crap back on. Looks great when you first fo it, but 6 months down the road it looksd like dog doo and is a pain to keep looking good.
I would prep it like the outside body and put decent paint on it, single stage urethane. Will look good forever. Super easy to keep clean.
For rock damage prevention, I would glue a thin piece of rubber between the rubber gaskets on the inside top of the front fender.

Good luck with whatever you choose.

Holy Sh*t. Nice job Mike....very impressive. I know how much BS you had to go through to get it to look that good...I went through the same deal on mine.
