The rounded key is the one that controls the alarm. If it fits into the lock and turns, check the wring at the lock and to the alarm and its activation relay.
If it does not fit into the lock, then the lock was changed sometime in the life of the car or it was damaged.
Should be the oval key. I agree with Blue73, sounds like the lock got changed at some point (different model year) and the key blank is different. Does your oval key lock the storage compartment? A 73' should have an 'H' code oval key blank.

I guess I found the first problem; both keys are square
Do you have the key numbers? If you do, I have the code book and can cut you a key. Won't cost you anything.

Where would I find the key numbers? From what I can tell, the sets I have are both after market. I will look through the book of receipts from two owners ago to see if I see a lock change. I was told that I'm the 4th owner, but who knows.
The owner that did all the work was two ago and he still lives locally, I may send him a note to see if he wouldn't mind talking to me. He's the one that got the car in the shape it's in today and he really didn't seem to pinch when it came to repairing or replacing something.
