My original spare still holds air but at 31 years old, I wouldn't want to use it and my rim is pretty nasty also. Figured I'd pick up a later model spare to use.
Should I look for a later Vette spare? Camaro spare? something else?
Need something that will fit in the spare tub under the car yet fit the car correctly if needed....
Nope. Spare tire carrier is empty. I carry a cell phone and have roadside assistance.
Of course I'm never more than 25 miles from home when out driving or at shows otherwise I might carry a can of fix-a-flat .
My spare tub has been up in the rafters for two years now. I haven't had a spare since I pulled the exhaust and went to side pipes. With the rest of the car pretty much complete now, I was thinking of restoring the tub and putting a spare back on it.....just in case.
My spare is just like the 4 on the ground but it doesn't always ride with us!!!
I only install the tub assy & spare when I go on long trips - Corvettes at Carlisle, Atlantic City or Ocean City Car Shows. Locally, the spare sits alone!!!
Normal rally with 225/70. About 20 years old and never on the ground. Figure it would get me home in case of flat. Come to think of it, maybe I'll switch it out. Tires are relatively cheap compared to damage due to tire shred.

That's what my original is. GoodYear I believe. I'm afraid of puting it on and having it blow while taking out my new paint job.
I carry a kit from Slime that is in a zippered ballistic nylon case that has a compressor, bottle of slime, patch inserts, reaming & insert tool, tire gauge, cigarette lighter adaptor. <$50 at Wally World. Dimensions: 13" x 10" x 5" Weight: ~6 lbs. Great way to save weight and increase storage capacity in the tire carrier for things like a small tool kit.
I have owned many vettes from 66 to 86 and while the first 81 and 86 came with spares...( huh...Coop is there a spare in the 86? ) I have never is 30 years had to change a tire out away on any car I have ever owned,...I'm I just lucky?
I used to carry fix a flat now I use slime in all my tires as it seals most things and if I had a blow out a cell phone call gets the car towed home for free....what a world we live it....
While I have been using the 69 as a daily driver I carry a 12 volt air pump and a contained battery jumper...I figure it will help someone....
The spare tire is exactly the same tire as the other tires on both of my '71's. 225 x 70 x15 fits in the stock tire tub. Although the carriage bolts need to be extended further to accomodate the slightly larger size tire from the factory 215 x 70 x15 tire originally used.
I have the original Goodyear Steelgard RWL spare that still has the label on it. It is in storage - I bought a new ralley rim and a new 225/70/R15 for the local driving and occasional trip.
