Steering wheel jerks when starting engine

I have two new issues with my 1980 c-3.

1. Loud click when i turn steering wheel with engine turned off and wheel not locked, of course.

2. When starting engine steering wheel jerks wildly when the engine fires up.

I have a new power steering pump and a new power steering piston - this is a bit scary!

Any thoughts?

Yes ,you have to adjust your control valve or replace I think Wilcox's web site has how to. Not hard a all

Been awhile since I did mine but it seems like I had to do it several times before I was happy. Put it on stands to do it.

When you put the new cylinder on did you make sure to cross the 2 hoses ?

This picture is right from the AIM. (All years are the same.) Note View A in the lower left corner of the sheet. Not criss-crossing the hose pipes is a very common mistake.
