WENT to a small town car show in Inman SC Saturday and their was a real 427 Cobra there. It was a 66 or 67 driven to the show by a lady this car was the real deal not a kit car. I was suprised that someone would drive a 300000 to 400000 thousand dollar car on the street but i guess thats what thay make insurance for.
I know a local guy quite well who own's a '64 Cobra, 289 car with Weber carbs, etc. Extensive vintage race history. Appraised 2 yrs ago at just North of $1 million. He drives it frequently. He's stopped racing it now, but he still takes it out and drives it hard on a great race track when there's an opportunity.
He's a successful business man, and a genuinely nice guy. He tossed me the keys a couple of years ago and told me to takes it out for a while and let him know what I thought of it.
Thrilling does not describe it. This is a very high compression, expertly tuned engine... the sound is incredible. Fantastic weight/power ratio. And personality that no new car could hope to match.
Recently rode shotgun with another area guy who owns several vintage Ferrari's. That day he brought his '92 F40... another amazing car when driven hard.
Anyway... yes these cars to get driven when their owned by legit car guys and not "collectors".
