Default Braking indicates turn

Lucky me, was just given an '82 vette, it's nice but needs a bit of work.
First would have to be the turn signals, I have brake and reverse lights but the turn signals don't work, the weird thing is when I step on the brakes the indicator for the left turn signal lights up.
Anyone have a clue as to what could be causing this?

The most likely cause is the turn signal switch. All of the tail light functions run through the switch and things tend to fall apart over 30 or 40 years. You have to remove a few things in the steering column to get to the switch, so try other remedies first, like checking the bulbs, power and ground to the lights.

If you have to go into the column, Jim Shea's articles on corvettefaq.com will help you a lot.

Check out Willcox Corvette if you need a new switch. I bought one through them a few months ago and they had the best prices.

Try cycling the hazard switch on and off and turn signals a few times , you might get lucky.

another possibility is a bad ground.. electricity will seek a ground.

Check the flashers, pass side is usual point for the turn signals, and hazard flasher is on the fuse box.

Do the hazards work???
