War bonnet yellow
Like so many of the Corvette colors from the 60s and early 70s, War Bonnet Yellow was named for a race track.
War Bonnet Park Raceway was located in Manfred, OK, about 25 miles from Tulsa. It was a road course built in 1966 for SCCA type racing. The Trans-Am raced there in 1968 (Mark Donohue won in his Camaro). This was the only major or professional race ever run there. The track closed in 1970 and became a housing development. Today, some of the original track still exists as roads through the development.
Other "strange" Corvette colors related to race tracks include Mille Miglia Red, which was a road race held on public roads in Italy. Steel Cities Gray was named for Steel Cities International Raceway in Warren, Oh, today it is known as Nelson Ledges, and Donneybrooke Green was named for Donneybrooke Speedway in Brainerd, Minnesota, now know as Brainerd International Raceway.

Being a road racing fan and a Corvette lover, I noticed the connection between Corvette colors and racing years ago. A few years back, I researched and wrote an article about the tracks and names for a local Corvette club newsletter. Some of the following names are obvious (Daytona) but others are quite obscure (Lynndale).
Daytona Blue & Yellow, Sebring Silver, Nassau Blue (for the Nassau Speed Weeks held in the Bahamas in the 50s & 60s), Glen Green (Watkins Glen), Goodwood Yellow & Green (the Goodwood circuit is in England), Lauguna Blue & Gray (Laguna Seca in Monterey), Mosport Green (Mosport Park, Canada), Lynndale Blue (Lynndale Farms Road Racing Park in Pewaukee, WI. open from 1963-67), Elkart Green (Elkart Lake, WI aka Road America), LeMans Blue, Silverstone Silver (British F1 track), Monza Red (Italian F1 course), Riverside Red & Gold, Monaco Orange, Marlboro Maroon (Marlboro Motor Raceway was an Upper Marlboro, MD course closed in 69, but the track and many of the original structures are still on the property though quickly deteriorating), Mulsanne Blue (Mulsanne is the name of the 3.7 mile long straight at LeMans), Bridgehampton Blue (Bridgehampton was located in the Hamtons section of Long Island, NY now it's a golf course), Brands Hatch Green (British F1 course), Ontario Orange (Ontario Motor Speedway in Ontario CA a shopping center and ice rink now), Bryar Blue (Bryar Motorsports park, now New Hampshire International Raceway) and Targa Blue (the Targa Florio ran on the public roads of Sicily).
This doesn't include Rally Red, British Green, Can-Am White, Trophy Blue and International Blue; which all have a racing connection. Heck, 67s Marina Blue might even have been a reference to the Marina beside the Monaco Grand Prix course?

So was Bridgehampton also a race track? This is very interesting, I had no idea how these colors were chosen.

Yep, that's the place. I was only there once, about 30 years ago. It was an amazing race track. 2.85 miles long, 13 turns and a straight away that was about 3/4 miles long that went into a blind down hill right hand turn. It was in a beatiful location, too. It was at the northern end of Long Island, near Sag Harbor. The track closed in the late 90s. The value of land in the area and pressure from the neighbors finally did it in.

WB
Muddy, No red X here, but a picture of the Oklahoma flag. Not the track! Mostly lurk these days, how things out west?

. Ok, cool on the flag. Thats is what's missing here! Be nice for my records to get schematic of the track as I had no idea there was a War Bonnet track. I have know about the other color tracks (not exactly there locations) but, never figured there was a track called WB! That's great! Sure seems strange though...that GM would use a closed track for one of their colors?
Hey, that's great on the LT-1
I'm still lookn' for a car here. There was a (Air) car here (last year) went cheap, but elected to pass as it was a coupe. Pretty sure I was first to see it. I'm lookn' for a roadster...(L71, L89 or 70 LT-1 ect.),as I already have a coupe. Needless to say, Doc's have to be there which makes it harder
Have a great summer!btw: LT-1 has taken second fiddle to the Screamn' Eagle Road King...
