Default help wanted

my grandfather just gave me a 74' stingray and i wanted to know if anyone could help me estimate how much money im going to have to dump into it to get it right?

the front right pitman arm is disconnected at the ball joint, the back window is busted, there is a tear in the front bumper, the point towards the front of the hood is broken exposing the reinforcement sheet metal and the carburator needs to be rebuilt. i would also like to replace the all of the wiring harnesses. the engine and transmission were both replaced and have about 8000 miles on them, but it has not been tagged since 1980! so it has not run much as you can imagine. BUT, the car DOES start and WILL run it just has some trouble getting started due to the carb.

any suggestions/estimates are appriciated!

Hi & welcome to the forum. My first question is why replace all the wiring harnesses? Did rodents chew the wires up? How much of this work can you do, or will you need it all done by a mechanic?
I looked in one of the vendor catalogs. You're looking at around 1,860 to replace just about all the wiring harnesses.
Re-bolt the pitman arm to the ball joint.
Rear window 240.00 w/date codes, 142.00 with out-from vendor.
New front bumper 320.00
Hood replacement 200-300 on ebay, 550.00-vendor plus any body work & paint.
Carb rebuild-you can do this yourself. If not I guess around 200.00
If it sat that long, good chance you'll need to replace the brake calipers & master cylinder. Figure around 600.00 plus labor.
The gas tank may also need to replaced because of rust inside & out. 215.00
I think, first get it running and the brakes safe and drive it for a while and see what really needs to be fixed besides the physical things, ie; rear window, hood and bumper.
Good luck and post some pics!

C'mon, the guy is looking for help. We all have spent more on our cars than they are worth, unless somebody gave us the car to begin with. Take a lesson from Glenn.

thanks for the reply's fellas, and to answer you GD70 yes there IS some rodent damage to the wiring but i talked to my buddy (hes got a 78') and he told me to just replace the damaged wires indivitually to save $$, as he did, and to answer the question ab. working on the vehicle i can do most of the work myself, but im a diesel mechanic and know absolutly nothing about carbs. and auto-trans. luckily the trans will not need any work. ive got a good support group and my 78' buddy is itchin' to rip into it. ill post some pics ASAP.

i Appriciate the estimate, and good call ab. the breaks and fuel tank!

No problem.
Get the AIM, Assembly Instruction Manual for your year. It was used along the assembly line by the workers. It has all the major assembly diagrams and worth it's weight in gold. Also get the Chassis service manual for your year. Next, get all the catalogs from the vendors. Most are free.

The costs of repair can double and triple depending on how much you outsource, and how much you do yourself.
