Default Yet another body mount replacement question

Last night, I replaced all of the bolts and bushings for my body mounts. I have the car lowered and the bolts in hand-tight, but I was wondering how much I needed to tighten them down. I have found a lot of threads on this topic and I know a lot of people on here have performed this task, but I was unable to find any torque specs, suggestions, etc. for tightening the bolts. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot!

The torque value might be on the AIM page showing the installation. Look for a note next to the part number for the bolts.

IIRC the torque spec is 50 lb/ft. One thing you might want to do before tightening the bolts is remove the plastic plugs under the body sill plates and see if the holes line up with the holes in the frame. The factory used these holes to align the body as it was mounted to the frame. You can stick a piece of 1/2" stock (bolt, dowel, etc) into the holes to make sure the body lines up correctly.

I wish I had done this when I put the body back on the 72. I put on wider tires and there is a rub on the right side. Looking at the alignment holes I can see that the body isn't quite aligned with the frame the way it should be. Now I will have to loosen all of the body mountings, hoist the body a bit and put it back down with the correct alignment.

I have all the body mount parts but I have been procrastinating because I dread the job. Every tips I read reduces the BM replacement anxiety.

Is it the same for a 1980? I plan to replace my body mounts and it is the first time I read about those holes to line up with the holes in the frame. Would you by any chance have a picture of them or a diagram that shows their location. Thx.

If you take off the door sill plate you will 2 plastic plugs. Remove them and you should be able to look down and see the holes in the frame.

EXCELLENT ADVICE and just another reason why I come to this forum before attempting such a job. This has never been mentioned to my knowledge. Thank you for the tip.

I agree with Mike above. This is very helpful.

Funny thing is I saw those holes when I removed the sill plate to remove the kick panel and wondered what they were for.
