Hi guys. I need to remove my engine from my 71' cpe. Whats the best thing to attach the chain to. I'll be using my lift to pull it. I've seen those brackets that attac to the intake manifold where the carb goes, but its an aluminum intake, and I'm not crazy about the idea of it holding the weight of the engine. Any ideas? Thank oyu.
I used one long bolt on the left front side of the driver's side head, and one at the right rear of the passenger head, in between the engine and firewall. Worked like a charm! Just go slow and take your time.
I had the same opinion on the intake lift plate, but I have talked to several folks that are using these with no issues. Just use grade 8 bolts at least one inch and nice thick washers if you prefer. The center loop makes it easy for balancing. I have also used the each corner of the intake method, its a little tuff to balance it. I noticed that my stock engine has the original steel hooks already installed.
I used 3/8 inch grade 8 bolts bolted to the heads and an engine leveler when I pulled the engine on my 71. I dont see how I could not have done it without the load leveler.
