Hey everyone, hope you all had a fine Father's Day.I have a question regarding the motor in my 1972 Coupe. I would like to know if anyone would be able to tell me if this is the original motor. I bought the car last year from the original owners estate,so I wasnt able to ask any pertinant questions,as his daughter was selling it... Its a base model 350ci 200 hp 4 spd car built 6/72...Is it safe to post the VIN on here or not? The casting on the block says CE230499(from the best i can read). My digital camera cant pick up the numbers on the block...If its ok to post VIN,I will do that if it will help. Thx for any info,Mike.
You will need the info stamped on the block in front of the passenger side cylinder head. there you should find the partial vin number should match yours, build date of engine, and suffix code tells you hp
Posting your Vin is fine. We all have when asking number questions.
The last 5 digits should match the vin tag on the windshield pillar.
The block Letters for base engine are CDH, CDJ(auto trans), CKW, CKX(auto trans). Usually CE is a factory replacement block.
Go to this link for more info. http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/...1972/72id.html
Also try to take a few pics of the engine pad and post them.

...that CE number is a "service replacement" engine, or warranty engine if that's the "stamped" number you're reading off of the pad in front of the right cylinder head just behind the water pump.
...the casting number is on the bellhousing flange in front of the firewall looking towards the ground from above the brake master cylinder. The most common number for 350ci motors is the 3970010.
Well how bout that...Now I guess I dont have to worry bout blowing the original motor up!!!! Thx guys for the usual prompt and accurate response...Mike
