Default 1976 Paint

Hey, I have a 1976 Vette and have been trying to find the original paint color. The body plate located in the cowl is in bad shape and can not be read. Is there any other way to determine the original paint color of the car. I found another data plate located in the door jam that says "paint" and "trim" on it but i can't match anything on it with any of the paint codes.

Also, when i removed the seats i found another data plate underneath connected to the frame. Does anyone know what this plate is and what information is on it?

For the door jamb plate, here are the codes for paint and trim.
Paint Codes:
10 = Classic White
13 = Silver
22 = Bright Blue
33 = Dark Green
37 = Mahogany
56 = Bright Yellow
64 = Buckskin
69 = Dark Brown
70 = Orange Flame
72 = Red

Trim Codes:
Color Vinyl Upholstery Leather Upholstery
Black 19V 192
Firethorn 71V 712
Buckskin 64V 642
White 15V 112
Smoked Gray 152
Dark Brown 692
Blue-Green 322

There isn't a "body plate" on the cowl. Post a pic of what you've found.

That's the trim tag and that's what you want. Post the codes for paint and trim; the time/build date of your 76 is in the upper right hand corner of the tag. You will find a letter and two numbers for month and day of the month. 1976 model year production began in August, 1975. August 1975 is A; September was B, etc.

There is no data plate on a Corvette frame and you should not be able to see the frame with the seats out. Post a pic.

Thanks for the help, I'll get those numbers off the trim tag and post them next chance I get. I tried matching them up with the information paint and trim codes richsteele posted above already but nothing matched up.

As for the data plate I found it was on the seat's frame (not the car frame). Sorry I worded that poorly. I'll take a picture of that and post it as well.

As for the body number plate located on the cowl, I read about that on this website:

http://100megsfree4.com/corvette/1970/vet76.htm

It mentions it right below the section about the different engine options. When i looked at the cowl there appears to be a plate bolted on in the location they mentioned however I can't read anything off it.

Yep. It's a manufacturer's tag and it'll have a date code on it.
