Default Heat Barrier Kit

Guys what is the best Heat Barrier Kit for a 76 ?
Please the best not just a good one. Because as you know the weather is very hot on my country which is Kuwait. It is reach 50c ( 122F ) under the shadow. For that reasons we didn't drove our C3s in morning or afternoon. We just drove them sometime in summer in evening ( sometimes not always ) but we like them and we proud to owned them in the winter session.

I have been to kuwait a few times and yes it is scorching hot there. I live in Florida (not nearly as hot, I know) and I am also searching for a good heat barrier. I can't say which is the best, but it seems that the madvette motorsports heat barrier may be the best value. $100 and it's pre cut w/ all of the bolt holes cut out as well. Maybe somebody else can say how well it works....

I'm using Lizard Skin first, then going with Mad Vette's.

Hi a-alshebli, I'm you neighbour (living in Qatar). I used 2 layers of heat/sound barrier in my car, the forst layer is a Dynamat Xtreme (I used 2 boxes, each has 9 sheets) to complete the entire car including doors, and on top of that I used a sheet of reflectix, I also used another layer under the body, something called Universal Zero Clearance Heat Shield, with all that stuff my cabin stays as cool as cucumber even at the peak of our summer. Here are the links of the stuff that I used with some pictures of my car during the installation :

Dynamat Xtreme :

This link has some testimonials about Madvette's heat barrier. I just got mine but haven't installed it yet. Will post results towards the end of the month.

Wow, thanks eagle. That stuff is expensive. Have you ever used it or do you know someone who has? Looks like a lot of work, but also looks like it might work really well.

I can give you a "subjective" answer from an owner of a 2007 C6.

First some background. I have a 2007 C6. Since it is a Z51, the stock tires are the Goodyear supercar runflats. Lots of road noise. Other noise makers are Kooks headers and Corsa Xtremes mufflers which is Corsa's loudest for the C6.

After Madvette Motorsports' insulation install, I immediately noticed the decrease in exhaust noise (which is actually music to my ears) in the cabin. What I did want to see a decrease in, was the drone I was experiencing in 6th gear in the 1650 to 1800 rpm range. On the interstate at cruising speeds between 70 and 80 mph, I had a slight drone just enough to be irritating. Now I can still hear it, I guess because I know what to expect, but the drone is not at the irritating level it once was, if that makes sense.

The tire road noise has decreased a little, but not as much as the exhaust noise.

One of the biggest complaints about heat in the C6 comes from the center console. Most folks complain that they cannot even rest their arm on the console lid. I don't think mine was that hot, but the storage compartment in the console did get hot enough that I wasn't comfortable about leaving any type of electronic device (cell, ipod, etc.) in the console. Now, that's not an issue anymore. It is still "warm," but not hot.

Ok, now to the ultimate test after the install. First ride with the War Department....my wife. She loves the car, but gave me h*ll when I installed the headers and exhaust. Now she is back to smiling in the car after the insulation kit install.

A suggestion to the ones who want to glue the pieces down. If possible, I'd stay away from gluing since this makes the insulation piece "permanent." What if you need to take out your carpet and insulation to access wiring or whatever? I'm not familiar with the install process in a C3, but in my C6, the only place I had to use tape was on the vertical pieces (door panels, roof, and sides of hatch area). Tape was used on the horizontal areas (floor boards, hatch area, etc.) only to tape each piece to another. Then the carpet was laid back on top.

For the price and ease of the install because of the pre-cut pieces (very little trimming), this kit is well worth it, especially since the wife likes it.

You don't have to go as far as I went, I have a big block (which will generate A LOT of heat) in a daily used car with A/C so for me every small difference counts. If you have a small block you probably need a single layer of reflectix to make the cabin more pleasent to set in during hot days of our summer.

Yes I forget this point. I have a small block ( but there is some ideas to make it big block ) but not a daily used. So, there are big difference. The Price of the madvette is perfect and I hope the heat decrease at least 50%

You can get much more than %50 , maybe %80 or even more if you put a layer of zero-clearance under the body, that material is amazing and it will keep the heat out of your cabin real good, and propably easier to put since you don't have to remove any of your interior parts, you only need to clean the surface under your cabin real well before applying.

Post some pics of your car, I feel good when I see some other C3s in our region, I know there are quite few in Kuwait, but not many in Doha, I feel lonely!

There was just a thread in the Paint/body forum about Lizzard skin, even though it is pricey, appearently it is some really good stuff... comming from a pretty reliable source in the Paint/Body forum.

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/pain...de-of-car.html

The madvette kit is on sale right now, I just bought it myself, but my car is far from ready to actually install it. I saw the sale and the good comments on it and just decided to go ahead and pick a kit up. Depending on the budget situation when the time comes around, I just might spray some lizzard skin or a similar item... you know, since I like to over kill on everything.

Here's the insulation that I used. I haven't driven enough to test it.

Default Cool It by Thermo Tec

I used dynamat extreme for sound deadening in my car. Then for heat, I layed down Cool It Thermo Tec (aluminized heat barrier) over it ... I don't feel any heat at all. It was a little expensive, but worth it (to me).
