Do you have the AIM for your '72? I have one for the '69, not sure if it's the same. I can scan the page and send it to you, if you think it may help.

Up until a year or two, the rear compartment pieces were made by DeWitt. They were made from the factory tooling and were duplicate originals. DeWitt sold the tooling to one of the Corvette vendors and they now sell the compartment doors and frames. The frames and pieces are for the 69 and up Corvettes. The 68 frames were not duplicated by De Witts. The 68 frames had springs in them to pop the doors open, the later years didn't.

Springs?! That's new. The doors on my 68 do not pop up.

I just got off the phone with my buddy who has an original 68 convertible and he said he has never paid attention to the hinges and frames on the rear compartment doors but he does know when he opens them they pop up and stay up about 4-5 inches.

Mine do not, but that doesn't surprise me. She's 42 years old now.

Ah, Mike, the same old gravity pull we see happening to our wives as we get older. Oh, crap, did I say that out loud?

Yes you did and you're in trouble BIG time if your better half happens to read your post. Better start thinking up excuses.

don't try to install the frame with the doors attached if you're doing this alone. the doors are too heavy, and the frame will break while it's being positioned.
