Default Hurst in a C3

I am considering as a project this fall installing a Hurst competition plus in my 1977. I feel the original shifter is a bit sloppy, I know it can be rebuilt. Ever since I was a kid in the 60s, I admired the Hurst in my brother's '64. I only drove that around the yard, because I was only 13, so I never got it out of 1st gear. Anyway, I would appreciate opinions from anyone who made the switch. Does it install easily, and is it worth the cost? I see the cost of the complete set up varies a bit from one vendor to another, any recommendations there?

Back when I had the Muncie 4 speed in my car I put in the Hurst. It was a much better shifter than the sloppy stock setup and my stock one was all rebuilt. The shifts are much more positive. Yes do it.

I'll second that opinion. Other than it being a higher quality piece to begin with, unlike the OEM shifter the Hurst mounts directly to the transmission, which maintains far better linkage geometry as the driveline moves about in the chassis under load. Do it.

Definitely - GordonM suggested I change when I first got my '69 - one of the best things I did! Very simple install, I'm not too mechanically inclined and even I didn't have any problems installing.

I also installed one, but I didn't like how high the shift handle was comming out of the console, so I cut 1 1/2 " off of the handle.
That puts it down lower, and shortened the shift. And to answer the question, it made a huge improvement over the stock linkage!

I have this on my short list - now my wife will think that it is just a vanity item as my last name is Hurst.

Have the Hurst Comp Plus in all 3 - wouldn't have it any other way.

Are the Hurst linkages required or will the originals that came with the car work?

I have two Hurst Competition Plus shifters with the linkage that I will be selling one of these days. One is new and the other is in good condition. I'm pretty sure the new one is for a C3 and the other one I believe came off from a C2. If interested, send me a PM and I will pull them out and get some numbers off from them, so they can be cross-referenced.

I like the looks of my stock shifter but I'm thinking of changing it for ergonomics purposes. On cool days the steel **** is uncomfortably cold to touch and sometimes when I pull up on the reverse lockout it pinches my hand. A hurst shifter with a plastic **** sounds like just the trick.

I purchased my 69 with a Hurst already in, (and have a factory in the garage). I've always loved the white 4 speed Hurst shifter **** looks,I know, a shallow reason for a shifter decision, but it looks and feels great.

I'm assuming remove the shifter (2 bolts), cut off what you want and drill either one or two more holes. Seen it done before on a 67 Chevelle I once owned.
