Default cross missfire issues

My 82ce has been having issues. Car ran great for three days (In the city) and then I went out on the highway and bam, issues. After being on the highway for 7-8 minutes the car just lost power and shut down. Put car in nuetral restarted and had to feather gas pedal to even begin to keep it running. Have had same issue for last few years. I have cleaned gas tank out, changed fuel pumps and filters. Open to any suggestions. Tired of seeing car not being driven. Daughter wants to look cool going to volleyball practice, can't say no. Help!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd suggest putting a scanner on it. look for codes and/or see what all the sensors read. Sounds like it could be any number of things. Vac leak to the MAP sensor, electrical problem, who knows.

I'd echo the above response suggesting scanning it.

Computer issues, maybe?

Get a cheap cable from here http://www.aldlcable.com and hook your laptop up to it. The cable will come with lots of free readers which will give you the reading of the engine while its running. It should tell you where the problem is. Do you have a check engine light on?

Until the car acts up it runs great. Car has been running this way for a few years. I get tired of trying to figure it out and park it. I get back in after some time (weeks/months) and it runs great for awhile. I will get someone to scope it and see what we come up with. I was hoping someone was or has had the same issue. Thanks for the help

Engine light only comes on right before the car is going to shut down. I will get her scanned. Thanks

Does scanning have to place when it's running bad. I really don't know when it's going to start running bad. Thanks

If I had to guess i would say its the HEI Module in the distributor. It will fail when its going bad once you get the car good and hot after a run. It will shut the engine down.

Scan for codes first. That part is about $100.

Yeah Hei module can definitely cause running problems when they get hot, if they have failed.

When you change that module make sure you clean the spot it mounts in real well and use the grease that comes with it.
