Default Plugs

I spent the afternoon dealing with an increasingly nasty transmission pan leak in my '80 and a quick oil change when I had a "while you're at it" moment.

I know...I know.

I've had a set of plugs, a cap and rotor and a new set of wires on the bench for a while now and decided...well, you know.

Jesus - the plugs are a real pain in the a$$ to even see much less remove. Actually, removal is one thing, but replacement while practically blind isn't promising to be a picnic.

I decided to chip away at this in the cool (hopefully) of the evenings this week.

Any tips besides a valium prescription and a few Hail Marys?

cut a piece of vacuum hose 3-4 inches long the size of a plugs porcelain. {plug wire end} Slip the plug into it and replace the plug into the head. Tighten the plug up to finish

That works great.

Also, I find that some of the plugs are far easier to get at from underneath the car. (If you can get it on a lift).

Some wires go up through the motor mount I use the old wire to pull up the new wire.(not sure on your year)
The rubber hose piece on the end of the plug is A great Idea it really works on most of the plugs.

Valium won't help. FCB does.

Thanks.

I was more wondering if you all remove the tin shielding from the exhaust manifolds or work (or struggle) around it.

About half of them are ONLY accessible from underneath, about two of them are not too bad from the top and the remaining two seem impossible.

I was laying underneath the car looking up...ankles crossed, filthy hands folded on my chest thinking: "Who's responsible for this??"

It's not that crowded in the engine compartment to warrant some of the oddities I see there.

Mike:

Valuim won't hurt either.
