79' A/C refrigerant charge
Have a friend of mine with a 79' L-82 4 speed car that the A/C performance kept getting worse. Have all the A/C service gear, including recovery equipment, but mostly used for commercial stationary R-22 stuff. Have an unused 30# drum of R-12, so stopped over today to help him out. Problem is, he's got a re-built R-4 compressor, so no factory charge label. Popped the gauges on the low side, and static gas pressure was pretty good. Sniffed around the shaft seal with the TIF and nothing. There was some oil slinging, so it's leaking. Fired her up in the garage and weighed in 2-1/2 pound's of R-12 to get it off the low pressure switch and a sweating suction line. Really didn't want to put in any more. Anyone know what the factory charge of these car's are.

There is an article in the latest Corvette Enthusiast about AC, it says 3 lbs.
