I prepped and primed the small block hood for Lynnes 72 this weekend just to see how SCG would look. I was going to shoot the big block hood tuxedo black just to compare. I shot the SCG tonight and all I can say is WOW. I liked the look of it when they were mixing it but when I shot the hood it just came alive. I have made up my mind on SCG. I mixed some clear with the final color coat and I can now see why everyone likes that color it is really beautiful. Thanks for the guys who sent the pics of their SCG coupes you were a big help. It is a great color. It is sad not to see more C3's in it.
There is about to be one more in that color I can promise you, I only bought a quart to do the hood with. At 94 bucks a quart I didn`t want to buy it all if I didn`t like it. When they were mixing it I still wasn`t sure because it has black and yellow pigment in it plus the silver but when I shot it on the hood it really came out at me. I cut the last coat with 10% clear and then shot 2 coats of really thin clear with retarder to make it flow out over all of that and it is a really beautiful color. With a black interior and black fiero seats I think it is gonna really look good
Yeah mine was sold on tuxedo black till she saw the hood, I promise I will figure out how to post pics and get some up this weekend. It`s only the hood right now.
I have a SCG and was at the syracuse summer nationals N.Y. this past week-end. A 1971 SCG rolled by me in the bright sun shine and was'nt sure if it was silver or SCG. When painted correctly that color leaves you second guessing your-self.
Got pics?...Trim tag says paint my new project SCG but house commander wants red...
Trust the Force, Luke...SCG. Gray is actually a misnomer. The color is a dark metallic silver, very very similar to the Silver Anniversary cars of '78. Absolutely beautiful.
I also love the color. My '72 was born SCG, but a PO decided that they liked Safari Yellow better. She is going to be painted back to SCG eventually.
Whoever painted the yellow wasn't extremely thorough and you can still see the original color in a few hidden spots (under carpet, underside of hood, under wiper door, etc.
If you look at it at just the right angle I swear you can see green in it
There could be a little green in the original formula. When I was buying Silverstone Silver for my '68, I asked the paint dealer what the difference was between 68 Silverstone Silver and 69 Cortez Silver. According to his chart, the only difference was the amount of yellow in the formula.
I painted my 73 thats on my avatar Stealth Grey Metallic and Platinum white but in the pic it is really dark but in the sun it is almost a blue color. But SCG has it beat hands down. Thanks for the pics Hamma the hood and those pics have sold me for sure
