The serial # is stamped on the top of the left rail just forward of the #4 body mount. Also, s/n is also located on the driver's side top rail just forward of the #3 body mount. Probably will need a flashlight, some perserverance and a small mirror to see it. I am assuming the body is still on the frame.

Not to sure about a '76 frame - Info posted for Tonytz06 applies to 1963-1972 frames. Maybe someone else can chime in about location of VIN on a '76 frame

A complete VIN is not stamped on the frame. A VIN derivitive is stamped in two places on the driver's side frame rail top. First: about where your left hip will be when sitting in the car. This stamp is not visible with the body on the frame.

Second position is just in front of the #4 body mount. You might be able to see this stamp after you clean off the road gook.

Good luck.

Yes with an assembly line worker using the machiine. JohnZ posted this pic a while back. The worker would stamp the frame the the location shown, then move to the area by #4 mount and stamp it again.

(Note cat con and aluminum bat wing on the car in the pic for a date reference.)
