It will depend on whether or not you are buying from a dealer or just a guy with a vette for sale. The guy will want cash, dealer will make arrangements with you. Cash is always good, you can sometimes make the better deal. I also think now they have a banking facility and title change place at the fairgrounds now.

I bought my '70 at Carlisle '08. I bought it from a guy, not a dealer. I paid by check. It went down like this:

We agreed on price, and I wrote the check on Friday afternoon. He filled out a deposit slip, and I went to his bank (without him btw) and made the deposit in his account. Saturday morning, he called his bank and confirmed the deposit had been made, the funds were in my account, and a hold had been put on my funds. Then, he signed the title and gave it to me and I went home. On Monday, I re-titled and registered the car in my name. On Tuesday, when my funds cleared to his account, he shipped the car to me, and Tuesday evening I was cruising around in my new 38 year old car.

It worked, mostly because the seller and I were both real guys looking to make an honest deal on a car and not scam anyone. I'll admit there were some nervous times for me, I'm sure there were for him as well (signing his title and giving it to me so that I am free to title the car in my name when he hasn't gotten paid yet was probably not the most comfortable thing in the world).

But if I had it to do over, I would not do it that way. I would bring my laptop to Carlisle because they have an area that is set up for wireless connectivity. When I made a deal, I would bring the seller to the wireless area and wire the money from my account to his account. Then, he could call his bank and confirm the money is there, then he would sign the title and give it to me, and it is my car. Good luck!

Just curious what years you're looking for, because I'm selling my 70. Take a look in the for sale section, "Hate to do it, but time to sell my 70". Lots of pics, some video's and a detailed description of the Vette.
You'll have a great time at Carlisle regardless if you find something or not.

Take a digital camera.......Take a shot or three of each one you are interested in plus a shot of the surrounding area......Allows you to shop more than one day and review the ones you like and still be able to find it in the sale area........

Look online and see if your bank has a branch in Carlisle and make a note of their business hours. I bought a Vette there in 2006 from a private seller. I put $ in my checking account at PNC in advance just in case I found something. When I decided on the car, I gave the seller a cash deposit then went to the local PNC branch in Carlisle and took out the rest of the funds. You shouldn't have to carry a large bankroll around all weekend. Hope you find something!

Terry,
The '74 is doing great, definitly has found a long time home and is being babied. Will be up in Pgh this week end. (Vette staying home) Thinking about going to the cruise in Friday at Mineral Beach, is it a good one? any others in the South Hills? Sorry for the change in the thread.
