Default Identify 327 suffix code

Hi,

i have a F-8-4 dated, 3959512 casting small block. It has a stamping that reads: CE4N39411.

What is it? I see it as a CE engine but what horsepower was it? Why does the 3959512 casting seldom show up in the books?

Thanks,
Jim

This casting number was from the early 60s and used between '62-'67 as original installation. It was used for additional years for service replacement engines, like yours.

CE engine codes can't really be deciphered much beyond what you already know other than the 4 infers that it was built in 1974, almost at the end of the 5-50 warranty program.

Default Thanks

Mike,

How do we know this is a '74 and not a '64 CE motor?

What did they call a "CE" motor in the early '60's(if this is dated '74)?

Thanks in advance,

Jim

The CE program didn't start until 1968 and ended around 1975. Prior to that I believe a lot of replacement engines had nothing on the pad at all and were simply identified with a paper tag attached to the engine.
