I think even the later production 1970 LT-1's had 2 thin (1/8" wide, 1/8" apart stripes.) We laid my wife's 70 out by hand according to the AIM dimensions. I did'nt want the flaws in the pattern so no NCRS top flight for me, glad I built the Vette to drive and enjoy it now, I don't have to worry about so many things.
Look at a picture here of my factory origional 71 #1324 with the 70 style stripe. The inside wide strip is wide at the center but tapers to 1/8 when it gets to the corner curve. They are not aligned well at the three joints. I replaced the silver outline LT-1 decal but still have the origional silver outline one. The car also has a 70 style side grills.

Solid LT-1 is correct the last unequal hood stripe now known is on 1970 s/n 15,889(July 18 build date).
The first equal width hood stripe now known is on 1970 s/n 16,448(July 24 build date). As per my 1970-1972 NCRS technical Manual.

The JM is wrong on this point and I have submitted the infromation to NCRS for evaluation. Ed
Ed,
I can tell you that your car will be noted in the 5th Edition of the 1970-1972 manual. I would agree that from your photos, it appears to be the real deal... Would still love to see it in person at some point.
Your car is definitely not the norm though... The painter probably found an old mask laying around and just decided to use it.
It appears that, in general, the change to equal width stripes happened during the last week of 1970 production.
The paint I used was PPG lacquer due to trying to match up to the original lacquer on the car. So, no clear-coat used.
And to add. The original LT-1 hood sticker edges were lifting due to age and probably washing and waxing over the years. So, clear coating would offer better protection to prevent that from happening.
Its funny how many of the Green LT-1 cars survived. My 70 LT-1 was Marlboro Maroon originally. And will be in the future when I decide to have it re-painted..
Have enjoyed driving the car this summer since all the mechanical restoration work I had done this past winter. Drove it more this summer than I have the past 10 years..
